NFL Teams That Have Never Won a Super Bowl

 October 23, 2022

There are many teams in the NFL that have never won a Super Bowl, including the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, and more. These teams have been close to winning on multiple occasions, but they have never been able to get over the hump.

Let’s look at some of these teams and their history.

The Detroit Lions

The history of the Detroit Lions is a long and sad one. This team has never won a Super Bowl and has had very few moments of true greatness. Nonetheless, they have had their fair share of standout players and memorable moments. One such player is Barry Sanders, one of the most dynamic running backs that the league has ever seen. Despite his incredible talent, he was forced to play for a lackluster team that often struggled to put up points on offense. Additionally, the Lions have also faced their share of heartbreaks, including a particularly devastating loss in the 1991 NFC Championship game.

Nevertheless, there have been glimpses of hope over the years. In recent seasons, there have been signs that this team is finally starting to turn things around. They made it all the way to the playoffs in 2016 and 2017, although they were ultimately eliminated in each instance. One thing is for sure, Super Bowl odds at the beginning of every season do not tend to favor one of the saddest teams in NFL history, the Detroit Lions.

The Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals are one of the oldest professional sports franchises in the United States, founded back in 1898. They initially started out as the Morgan Athletic Club, competing in various local leagues and tournaments before eventually joining the NFL. Throughout their long and storied history, the Cardinals have had many great players, coaches, and moments. Some of their best players include Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald, Pat Tillman, and Tim Hightower.

On the field, they have enjoyed a number of significant successes over the years. Most notably, they have made 3 Super Bowl appearances but, unfortunately, never won any championships. They also boast a staggering 11 conference championships to their name and have won both regular season and playoff MVP awards multiple times. However, despite all of these achievements, perhaps their greatest moment was when they moved from bustling St. Louis to the bright lights of Arizona in the late 80s.

Houston Texans

The history of the Houston Texans has been riddled with both success and failure. The team was founded back in 1999 and took a few years to find its footing on the football field. However, once they began to hit their stride, it wasn’t long before they established themselves as one of the best teams in the league. Some of their greatest players have included J.J. Watt, DeAndre Hopkins, Arian Foster, Andre Johnson, and Mario Williams. The Texans have also enjoyed some truly impressive moments over the years, from making it all the way to the playoffs multiple times to winning multiple division championships.

However, despite all of their successes, there is one glaring failure that looms over the Houston Texans: they have never won a Super Bowl. Although the team has competed for a number of prestigious titles over the years, they’ve come up short each time. Whether it’s been a heartbreaking loss due to an untimely injury or simply falling just short of glory in overtime, it seems that this team always falls short when it comes to winning a championship trophy.

Cincinnati BengalsĀ

For almost 50 years, the Cincinnati Bengals have been a mainstay of the NFL landscape. Throughout their history, they have seen both successes and crushing failures, albeit mostly more of the latter. Though they’ve never won a Super Bowl, they have fielded some of the top players in the league over the years, including legends like Ken Anderson, Ickey Woods, and Chad Johnson. Additionally, their loyal fan base has supported them through thick and thin over the years and continues to this day. Despite these achievements and more, one thing that has always eluded the Bengals is a Super Bowl victory.

The Bengals have come close to winning a championship on a few occasions, but they always seem to find a way to lose in the end. Whether it’s due to poor coaching, bad luck, or simply not having enough talent on the field, the Bengals have never been able to take that final step and win a Super Bowl.

Conclusion

These were just some of the teams that have never won a Super Bowl. There are many other teams with similar stories of both greatness and heartbreak. Though they have never hoisted the Lombardi Trophy, these teams continue to fight on and provide entertainment for fans all across the country. Who knows, maybe one day, one of these teams will finally be able to break through and win the big game. Until then, we can only wait and see.
