James Bond and his Super Cars

James Bond is one of the most famous personalities in film history. He has been the star of 24 blockbusters since the 1960s. Also set to hit theaters this year is the long-awaited new Bond, starring Daniel Craig for the final time as 007. The British secret agent is known for his beautiful yet dangerous Bond Girls, his penchant for shaken vodka martinis, and, last but not least, his Cars that act as true multi-tools and effective weapons. The following article explains which supercars the Bond films are particularly well-known for and what unique properties they bring with them.

Bond’s favorite – The Aston Martin

No car brand is seen more often in Bond films than Aston Martin. 007 loves its luxury British sports cars, which have been produced since 1913. One of the showpieces, for example, is the silver Aston Martin DB5 driven by Sean Connery, one of Bond’s most famous actors, in Goldfinger. The DB5 will also appear again in the forthcoming 25th Bond film.

But other models from the British manufacturer are also shown in the 007 films. Bond, for example, likes to sit in the Aston Martin Vanquish, where he outruns the opponents in a wild chase in 2002’s Die Another Day. Although 2006’s ‘Casino Royale’ changed the lead actor, Bond’s love for Aston Martins remained. As in 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Daniel Craig can be seen here in a DBS but converted Aston Martin DB9s were used for the filming. Bond drives the same model in Quantum of Solace, which was released in 2008. A total of six DBS were destroyed during filming, which at a value of 240,000 per car, explains the high production costs of the strip.

In the most recent Bond film, “Spectre,” Daniel Craig drives a fast Aston Martin DB10. Of course, thanks to “Q,” this has some additional practical functions, such as the built-in flamethrower that Bond uses in a chase. The Aston Martin model is available in real life, but only in a minimal version. Only ten examples of the DB10 were built.

Well-equipped – extras, gadgets, and tunings

Not only does Bond get to drive the most expensive and beautiful cars the British car market has to offer, but he can also have countless extras that MI6’s technology experts build into his cars. Classics are the Lotus, which worked as a submarine in “The Spy Who Loved Me,” or the somewhat more modern Aston Martin Vanquish with a built-in defibrillator in “Casino Royale.” The film showed that James Bond’s casino stint was no harmless hunt. And slots, but can end up with near-fatal poisoning at the poker table. Only with the help of his Defi-Vanquish could he finally be saved. James Bond is prepared for anything.

Ready for any chase – The Land and Range Rovers

Range Rovers were also featured in the early 007 strips. A unique convertible model of the SUV was featured in 1983’s “Octopussy,” starring Roger Moore. Range and Land Rover are also used in “Spectre,” the third Bond film starring Daniel Craig. A Range Rover Sport SVR and a Land Rover Defender were shown during a chase through a snowy mountain village in Austria.

Traveling in style – The Rolls Royce

However, 007’s love of British cars is not limited to fast sports cars. The Rolls Royce Phantom is also a recurring companion of 007. Not only does Bond drive a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II in 1985’s A View to a Kill, but a Rolls Royce Phantom III is also used in 1964’s ‘Goldfinger’ shown, and one that catches the eye thanks to its black and yellow paintwork. In the most recent Bond, “Spectre,” a Rolls Royce Phantom III is shown again, but this time in one.
