The research design section bags the most marks out of your thesis or research paper. Hence, it has to be perfect, so you don’t lose ground in front of your marker. The dilemma is, only a few students get to craft the most appropriate research design for their dissertation for several reasons. This blog will describe several ways you can prepare the perfect research design for your thesis and impress your supervisor.

1- Read, read, and read on previous researches

The fundamental requirement of writing the best research design that matches best with your research questions is reading crazily on the previous research done on the same topic from various academic and essay database. This will make you understand how previously established authors have been able to write a good methodology section and if it worked or not.

So, now when you are to develop your design, you know how to replicate it according to your context.

2- Consult multiple research books

So now that you’ve read the most popular and established research design in the existing research on the topic, it’s time you move to the research books.

To develop a sound design, you have to consult original research books written by famous authors, for instance, Creswell, Cohen, or any other. We recommend you read more than two books because two will never be enough to meet all of your requirements. Although Creswell is known for his lengthy descriptions, there are still some shortcomings in his books that Cohen can cover. And obviously, Cohen will also lack some details you need, so switch to another one to get the relevant details from. Only this way can you produce good research. Plus, it will show your supervisor that you have worked hard to craft this design.

3- Keep your supervisor in the loop

While all of this is happening, don’t forget about taking approval from your supervisor. Because no matter how much you have read on the topic so far or the number of research methodology books you have consulted, only your supervisor can confirm if you are on the correct route.

Keep showing them the progress you have made and ask for constant feedback to improve side to side. One helpful tip here’s to never take your supervisor for granted or underestimate his/her authority. Or else you will find yourself in hot waters.

4- Identify your methodological details

Now what’s final is to determine what is your strategy when it comes to data collection and analyzing tools. Since you’ve read up everything relevant so far, this should be a piece of cake for you.

Don’t forget to keep mentioning the rationale for why you made the decisions you did from an academic perspective. This will be enough evidence that you know what you are doing and not simply replicating the already existing researches on the topic.
