The global pandemic had an impact on all spheres of life, including people’s leisure. Video games have become a natural response to social isolation restrictions. Surveys indicate that people played much more video games during the quarantine than before. What did they play, and how?

Well, besides the best porn games pc, there were a lot of options. Single-player and multiplayer titles divided attention equally to the gaming audience. The audience itself increased greatly too. However, let’s look at each trend separately.

What Games Did We Play?

2020 was a tough year for people. At the same time, there were a lot of great hits. Activision released a free-to-play battle royale, Call of Duty: Warzone. Accessibility of the game and its high quality made СoD: Warzone a blockbuster during the quarantine period.

Besides, Nintendo launched Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This game covered another chunk of the audience, who preferred more relaxing games. Besides, Animal Crossing was a working stress-relief during the pandemic limitations. Games, in general, were a perfect distraction from stress. We may say that video games care about people’s mental health.

In terms of format preferences, a lot of people played single-player titles. Narrative-focused stories, RPGs, and cinematic adventures became the choice of the audience. Multiplayer titles were widespread, too, but the tendency shifted toward single-player games. Besides, there were such hits as Hades, Ghost of Tsushima, and Doom: Eternal.

What Platforms Did We Prefer?

Nintendo Switch was the most widespread platform during the pandemic. A strong line of exclusive titles and ports of popular hits is a strong argument for the choice of the console. Besides, its portability makes it even more comfortable to play while everyone’s at home.

Pc was the second most popular platform for gaming. The old generation consoles did not provide much visual quality. Next-gen consoles were scarce. Therefore, people preferred the more available options.

Besides, a lot of games support cross-platform play. There are many online cross-platform and cross-gen games. For example, Street Fighter or Fortnite. Thus, the choice comes from the personal preferences and comfort of usage.

What Changed After The Quarantine?

The quarantine restrictions become less strict, and we have more freedom in our leisure and hobbies. However, many of us discovered the world of video games. People of all ages found something in the wide variety of video games. They created new opportunities for game developers and hardware manufacturers.

The demand for the new generation consoles is still higher than the proposition. Pandemic contributed to the lack of PS5 and Xbox Series X on the market. As a result, Nintendo Switch and Pc would be the most popular gaming platforms for a while.

There are rumors about a new revision of the Nintendo Switch too. Release of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is a huge landmark for Nintendo. Thus, the presentation of an updated Switch version will compete with the new consoles by Microsoft and Sony.

The game production process changed as well. Game developers adapted to remote work. It took a lot of delays in game release dates, and a lot of new titles were released poorly polished. At the same time, indie games shined like never before.

Small developers, who always worked in such a regime, adapted pretty quickly. We saw a lot of well-made, small games during the pandemic. On the contrary, such delays allowed the installation of a lot of features and quality improvements for future games.

After Gamescom, E3, and other gaming showcases, there’s a promise of true next-gen games coming in the next couple of years.
