How to Create Windows 10 Recovery Drive/Disk

How to Create Windows 10 Recovery Disk or USB

1: Run Media Creation Tool

You would first need to run media creation tool. If you have used it when installing windows then you can use it to create media on a disc or a USB flash drive. Even if you have waited to get your windows 10 download in your PC, still you can create the media and use it on other machines. Make sure to check whether your PC is 64 Bit or 32 Bit. The media creation tool is available for both types so choose the correct one and select the option ‘create installation media for another PC’.

2: Select Language and Version

In this step, choose the language and the version of Windows 10. The version you choose should match with the one you have installed. If it is for another PC, choose it accordingly. Also, choose the correct one whether it’s for 32 but or 64 bit system. On the next page you would have to select whether you want to burn disc or want to create a USB drive. Once selected, wait for the download to get completed.

3: Create a Recovery Drive

There was an option to create a recovery drive in the control panel in earlier versions of windows. Windows 10 does not have any such option to create recovery drive in control panel. However, there is an option which you would need to search in it. Click on the start menu and type recovery in the search box. In the result select ‘create recovery drive’.

4: Backup System Files

The system will ask your permission to launch create recovery drive window. Here you would need to select the backup option. Now click on the Next button. After a while, your system will ask you to connect USB drive.

5: Check Flash Drive Size

Now, It will tell you to what size of flash drive you need. This will depend on the already installed programs in your system. Generally, it asks for minimum 4GB sized drive. Select your drive and click on the Next button. Before you create the drive, your windows program should be activated. If already activated, this will not ask you for any license key to reinstall.

6: Create a Recovery Drive

Now, you would have to create a recovery drive in your PC. Before it, the system will give a warning that your files will get deleted. If you want to continue, click on the create button. It will start creating a recovery drive. You can use your PC between this process. Once the process gets complete, It will give a message ‘The recovery drive is ready’. Now click on the Finish button.

7: Try a Different Install Method

If you don’t want the windows to install completely, you can choose other install option. To avoid complete reinstallation, Go to settings in the start menu, click on update & security. Now select Recovery. You will get different options to reinstall your Windows.
