Barça coach Javi Hernandez has asked Catalan club bosses to bring Lionel Messi back to Barcelona. This was reported by the Spanish newspaper Sport.
For the 42-year-old Argentine, the Argentine is not only an important sporting factor but, from Xavi’s perspective, a commitment to Lionel Messi also has financial value. Especially in light of the new sponsorship contracts.
Current Catalan coach wants the Argentine back
Javi Hernandez and Lionel Messi played side by side for Barcelona until 2015. The Argentine superstar left his heart club Barcelona last summer after a 21-year career. Messi’s contract expired, but the Catalans were unable to sign a new deal with the league due to the then huge debt of €1.35 billion. The Argentine then moved to Paris Saint-Germain.
However, after a season that was mediocre by Messi’s standards, there has already been speculation of a sensational return of the 35-year-old to the blaugrana. At least club president Joan Laporta recently spoke publicly about the possibility of a return. “I believe, hope, and wish that Messi’s chapter at Barcelona is not over yet,” – Laporta told ESPN.
Xavi favors Messi’s return
Statements that are also likely to have come to Xavi’s liking. According to Sport, the Barça coach is calling for the Argentine to return. And that’s in the summer of 2023 when Messi’s contract with France’s Cheik Ensemble expires.
“La Pulga,” as Messi has been nicknamed, will be 36 years old, but nevertheless, a return would be “the key to the club’s revival,” as Xavi said. Messi’s “experience and high quality” will mean a return for the blues.
PSG wants to extend
Meanwhile, a return as early as this summer is out of the question. Messi will only be available for a high transfer fee, which Barcelona cannot afford after spending a total of €103m on Robert Lewandowski and winger Rafinha. In addition, Ousmane Dembele’s contract has been extended, and central defender Andreas Christensen and midfielder Franck Kessy have been signed for free. However, the players cannot yet be registered in the league due to a high mountain of debt.
Paris, meanwhile, would like to extend Messi’s contract early. The Sheikh’s club is likely to be able to offer the Argentine a salary that Barça cannot match.
Nowadays, people are interested in football players, clubs, and sports betting online. Vulkan Bet, for instance, offers fans who bet live football a wide betting line, high odds, and generous bonuses. It also promotes amateur football, actively cooperating with the AFL league.
Laporta also wants Messi back
As already mentioned, Laporta also dreams of the return of his prodigal son. “So I believe we have a responsibility to make sure that chapter is not closed,” Laporta told US broadcaster ESPN.
“Messi was everything to us,” the club boss stressed, “Barça he was probably the greatest player, the most effective in history. In my opinion, he can only be compared to Johan Cruyff. But we had to make a decision.”
