Fix Chrome Blocking Downloads: Millions of existing users are annoyed by Google stopping Chrome from Blocking Downloads. Chrome launched in 2008 and standing on the #1 position today and all thanks go to premium quality and features.

Currently, Chrome does promise the user’s privacy and security functions to prevent the system from getting attacked by digital invaders. However, they do not provide absolute protection against the advanced threats and end up blocking downloads as part of a prevention program.

How to Stop Chrome from Blocking Downloads

I’m happy that Google never hesitates to provide advanced functions accessible to the average PC administrators. Of course, we don’t recommend the users to disable this function because there is a reason why the browser is preventing the download to exist in the machine. Make sure to understand what you are doing before going through the process.

Step 1: Click on the three-dotted icon located at the top right corner for the drop-down menu, and select Settings to continue.

Restart the Chrome browser to start a fresh session, and none of the downloads will be blocked by the browser. Google informs the readers that this feature is available to prevent users from browsing, and downloading dangerous files. Remember, Chrome will not notify about the website’s security status after disabling the Safe Browsing feature.

How to Recover Blocked Downloaded File in Chrome?

I downloaded several files from anonymous sources that the Chrome browser prevented it. Unfortunately, Google’s browser does not block the download, when it begins, but it blocks the content after the download is finished. We cannot re-download larger file sized content again and recovering them is another option. In this part, I will guide the users to recover blocked & downloaded content from Chrome.

Step 1: Open Chrome browser’s Downloads by clicking on the three-dotted icon, and then select Downloads option. You can also type (chrome://downloads) in the URL clipboard to reach the destination faster.

Step 2: Right-click on the blocked file and select Recover malicious file to continue.

Step 3: Now Chrome will remove it from the blocked content list, and save the file in the local storage.

Note: I don’t have a malicious file to display in the demonstration, so I leave this part for the readers to figure out. Remember, the security system might shift the downloaded file in the virus chest, so make sure to turn it off.

Why Google Chrome Blocks Downloaded Content?

I meet people, who don’t understand why certain security features are added to the application. As a technical writer, I have to inform the readers about the benefits and consequences that they do not know about it.

A) Torrent based content is a source for privacy invaders and digital attackers to find an administrator-level entry on your computer. Do not download content from Torrents because they contain harmful files that aren’t visible to the naked eye.

B) We download premium softwares for free and later found out that they were packed with all sorts of security threats. Chrome immediately detects those files that could harm your computer and prevents it from entering the local storage.

C) I mentioned, Safe Browsing above and the function also disabled dangerous website alerts. Users cannot figure out, which website is safe and which isn’t and you might end up on a website that designed to rip visitors off.

Yup! That’s about it, and this is how millions of computer is prone to digital invasion.

Bottom Line

I have shown the readers what they need to do to solve Chrome blocking downloads issue and go-ahead to try something new. However, make sure to understand what you are doing with the Chrome browser because it won’t prevent invaders from blocking download and rest leaves to the security programs.
