What's your church's stance on homosexuality?

The Rev. Gordon Hutchins performs a wedding between Wayne and Michael Simonson at his church in Tacoma, Wash., after his state legalized same-sex marriage in November. But Hutchins, a United Methodist minister, defied his denomination, which does not endorse same-sex marriage or the ordination of openly gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender priests. Ahead of our San Francisco screening of "A Church Divided," we want to know how your church approaches the issue of same-sex marriage.

The debate over same-sex marriage has been raging as the Supreme Court prepares to issue a decision on the constitutionality of Proposition 8, the California law that made such marriages illegal. However, the discussion also extends beyond the political landscape, as churches across the world are having similar conversations about how their religion's dogma should apply to this contentious topic.

Our new documentary, “A Church Divided,” explores the issue within the United Methodist Church, which weighed whether or not homosexuality is compatible with Christian teaching at its global convention in April. We'll be hosting a free screening of the film with KQED on Tuesday in San Francisco, followed by a panel discussion with the reporters and a few of the documentary's subjects. For more information and to RSVP, check out this event listing.

Ahead of the conversation, we're wondering how your church discusses the issue of same-sex marriage. Share your insights with us by filling out the form below.
