Midnight Marijuana Deal Goes Bad

A medical marijuana distributor and home care provider was robbed at gunpoint early Thursday morning in Richmond.

Police say the distributor received a delivery order for a pound of marijuana through his website at about 9 p.m. He traveled from San Francisco to an address on the 4800 block of Cutting Boulevard to deliver it.

When he arrived at about 12:15 a.m., police say he and two friends were robbed at gunpoint of the product and their cash.

Although the victim distributes medical marijuana, police say the suspect did not provide proof of a prescription, nor did the victim verify the suspect's identity before the delivery.

"We would dissuade people from trying to do these types of transactions, even if they're legal," said Mark Gagen of the Richmond Police Department. "At face value, it's a very serious crime that these people are victims of. But if this was any type of transaction on eBay, you wouldn't be buying an antique at midnight under a carport."

Police have not made any arrests in the case.
