Unsure how to use the best Minecraft enchantments? Here are the best ones. The sheer variety of item powers that you can choose from in Minecraft, with different tiers and effects, is quite daunting at first. There’s a lot involved in the process, but luckily, this guide explains it.

Enchantments in Minecraft aren’t necessary, but they are an excellent way to enhance your gear and to make it more useful. The benefits don’t stop at attack, either. Alternatively, these best Minecraft enchantments can increase your chances of obtaining gilded Blackstone, which normally only drops 10 percent of the time.

You can find in this walkthrough an explanation and examples of all the best Minecraft enchantments that you can use to enhance anything in the game. But before that, do check out what actually is Minecraft enchanting and how you can be benefitted from it.

What is Minecraft Enchanting?

As they grant you various special effects, Minecraft enchantments are an important mechanic to prepare you for the endgame. With the ability to enchant everything from weapons to tools to armor, there’s no doubt you have something you can enchant. Enchantment essentially involves injecting special abilities into items.

Now, you know what actually is Minecraft enchanting, now it is time to look for the best Minecraft enchantments that are available online.

Updated List of Best Minecraft Enchantments

So, without any further delay, have a look at all the best enchantments in Minecraft that we have listed and can be used with any type of armors and tools.

Best Minecraft Armor Enchantments

Unless the chest plate has a situational enchantment, enchant the entire armor set with protection, or at least one piece, preferably the pants, with protection.

Protection IV: All armor pieces should be enchanted with Protection IV. The level of the enchant decreases damage by 4%. All four pieces of armor with Protection IV will reduce your damage by 64%. In addition to dungeon chests, fishing, and trading, enchant books can be found only in dungeons. Enchanting tables cannot be used to enchant mending.

Unbreaking III: Armor is more durable before breaking. At level III unbreaking, armor pieces will last about 40% longer before requiring repair. Tools and weapons must be unbroken to use armor. With unbreaking III applied to armor, its durability is increased by only 43 percent, but with tools or weapons, it is effectively quadrupled.

Mending: This best Minecraft enchantment helps you to repair your arms automatically using experience orbs. A great Minecraft enchanting and can be used to find mending enchant books such as fishing, trading, etc.

Helmet:

  • Mending
  • Protection IV: Also referred to as Projectile Protection IV, Blast Protection IV, and Fire Protection IV, Mending, and Unbreaking III
  • Respiration III: Using this, you can extend your breathing time underwater by 45 seconds. Use this enchant to swim for longer periods of time when underwater.
  • Aqua Affinity: Increases your mind and dig power underwater around 5X more. Isn’t that awesome?

Several enchantment orders cost the same in levels. Even with the same total costs in levels, the XP costs can vary.

When you perform two steps each costing 2 levels and 4 levels, it requires more XP than it does when you perform two steps each costing 3 levels.

Enchantment orders are optimal as follows: {[(Helmet + Respiration III)@6 + (Protection IV + Aqua Affinity)@2]@8 + (Unbreaking III + Mending)@2}@9 with a cost of 6 + 2 + 2 + 8 + 9 = 27 levels.

Chest

  • Protection IV, Unbreaking III, and Mending.
  • There’s no need to add any other enchants while using this armor.

It is optimal to enchant: [(Chestplate + Protection IV)@4 + (Unbreaking III + Mending)@2]@7 with a cost of 4 + 2 + 7 = 13 levels.

Leggings

  • Protection IV, Unbreaking III, and Mending.
  • No need to add any other enchants in this armor too.

It is best to enchant: [(Leggings + Protection IV)@4 + (Unbreaking III + Mending)@2]@7 with a cost of 4 + 2 + 7 = 13 levels.

Boots

  • Protection IV, Unbreaking III, and Mending.
  • Feather Falling IV: In the Minecraft world, a player can wear enchanted boots to protect themselves.
  • Depth Strider III or Frost Walker II: With Depth Strider III, you can walk underwater at the same speed that you do on land. You can create ice by walking on Frost Walker II, but not with a boat.

Each level has the same enchantment cost. XP costs can still be different even at the same total costs in levels. A step that costs 2 and 4 levels requires more XP than one that costs 3 levels each.

The best enchantment order is: {[(Boots + Depth Strider III)@6 + (Protection IV + Unbreaking III)@3]@9 + (Feather Falling IV + Mending)@2}@10 with a cost of 6 + 3 + 2 + 9 + 10 = 30 levels.

Best Minecraft Weapons and Tools Enchantments

You need to use Unbreaking III and Mending with all weapons and tools just as the way you did with Armor. Only Bow here is the different as you can’t use Infinity enchant if you have Mending. We will come to that part as well. Keep reading.

Meantime, check all the best Minecraft enchantments for weapons and tools one by one:

Sword

  • Unbreaking III
  • Mending
  • If you want to deal with undead mobs such as withers and wither skeleton farms, Sharpness V is recommended or Smite V (unless you are going to have a spider farm).
  • Sweeping Edge III: This best Minecraft enchantment helps in increasing sweeping damage by whooping 75%. Please note that this enchantment is not available in the Bedrock edition of Minecraft.
  • Looting III: A useful enchant that helps in increasing item drops from mobs.
  • Fire Aspect II(Optional): Fire away your enemies using this enchant.
  • Knockback II (Optional): This enchant pushes away the enemies from you when you hit them.

Axe

  • Unbreaking III
  • Mending
  • Efficiency V
  • Sharpness V or Smite V or Cleaving III: Increases damage and prolongs shield stun [Java Edition].
  • Silk Touch: Great for melons, bookshelves, beehives, or Fortune III: Only marginally useful for melons.

Bow

  • Infinity: If you have one arrow in inventory, use this enchant to shoot any number of arrows without actually any of the arrows.
  • Power V: Do you want to kill monsters easily and quickly. Use this enchant that increase damage power of arrows.
  • Unbreaking III
  • Flame: Use this enchant if you want to set your arrows on fire. Please note that this won’t work if it is raining.
  • Punch II (Optional): “Knock back” your targets when you hit enemies by an arrow.

In Unbreaking I / II / III, you need fewer arrows averaging 767/1151/1535 (18 stacks). If you constantly gain experience, which is likely to happen, your bow will never break.

Unless you easily obtain a large number of arrows, the best way to get infinity is to have a lot of iron for anvils and a lot of iron for anvils.

A powerful bow would also be an exception if you acquired it early in the game. As a result, you won’t have too much iron or an enchanting table when you first start.

It is optimal to enchant: {[(Bow + Power V)@5 + (Infinity + Unbreaking III)@3]@9 + (Punch II + Flame)@2}@10 with a cost of 5 + 3 + 2 + 9 + 10 = 29 levels.

Crossbow

  • Quick Charge III: Reload your crossbow in less time if you this Minecraft enchantment.
  • Multishot or Piercing IV: You can only have one enchant at the time. Multishot allows you to shoot 3 arrows on the cost of using one arrow. Moreover, Piercing will hit multiple enemies at one time.
  • Unbreaking III
  • Mending

Only enchanting tables can provide Quick Charge II for crossbows. Alternatively, Quick Charge III can be obtained by using enchanted books, combining two crossbows, or from mob drops.

If you use Multishot, you are more likely to hit another mob, or the same one, when it is larger, but if you use Zombified, a villager or a bee will make an iron golem angry unintentionally.

Piercing allows arrows that hit a mob to be reused, which is similar to Infinity. It is also useful for completing certain advancements [Je only] or killing at spawners. Piercing is often better since it requires fewer arrows, and with multishot, it is impossible to see where all three arrows will land.

Moreover, Piercing uses one durability per shot, whereas Multishot uses three; tipped arrows, for example, can be retrieved after use, which Infinity does not have.

Trident

  • Mending
  • Unbreaking III
  • Loyalty III and Channeling or only Riptide III:
  • Impaling V: Using this enchant, you can increase the damage caused by all tridents.

Weather conditions can be used to fight mobs. If you do not throw your trident in the void, you will automatically receive it. In some weather conditions, riptide can also be used as a substitute for fireworks when there is water available.

When you use your trident to attack any mob, Channel will strike them with lightning. Additionally, a witch can be turned into a zombified pig, mushrooms can be made into brown mushrooms, and creepers can become charged creepers using this spell.

When a charged creeper explodes, nearby mobs drop their heads so this enchantment can be used to farm mob heads. The explosions of creepers with charged batteries are 50% more powerful than those with TNT.

Pickaxe

  • Unbreaking III
  • Mending
  • Fortune III or Silk Touch: Choose either of these to mine at the faster speeds. While Fortune III can be used to mining drops such ad diamonds, emeralds, etc. Silk Touch is to mine stocks blocks that is useful for building castles.
  • Efficiency IV

Shovel

  • Unbreaking III
  • Mending
  • Efficiency V: Use this enchant to increase the digging speed
  • Silk Touch: Can be used to harvest things like grass blocks, snow, etc at increased speed.

Hoe

  • Unbreaking III
  • Mending
  • Efficiency V: Mines all blocks instantly with a hoe.
  • Silk Touch is helpful for obtaining leaves or Fortune III that is a good way to get apples and saplings from leave.

Axe

  • Unbreaking III
  • Mending
  • Efficiency V: This enchant is used to increase the speed of woodcutting. Chop trees with 2x double speed.
  • Sharpness V: Use this enchant to increase damage while using the axe. It can increase the sharpness of axe significantly and kill undead mobs in no time.
  • Silk Touch can be used for bookshelves, melons, and beehives or use Fortune III for melons, but not so good for beehives.

Fishing Rod

  • Unbreaking III
  • Mending
  • Luck of the Sea III: Reduces junk discovery chances.
  • Lure III: Improves the speed at which fish are drawn to the bobble.

Shears

  • Unbreaking III
  • Mending
  • Efficiency V: It is possible to mine wool instantly using this enchant.
  • Silk Touch: Useful for cobweb

We normally do not recommend enchanting shears at all, as they can only be enchanted with an anvil, and they require iron ingots, which are available in large quantities in late-game. Therefore, you should only enchant them if you already have a large stock of enchanted books from these categories.

Flint and Steel

  • Unbreaking III
  • Mending

Shield

  • Unbreaking III
  • Mending

Enchanting shields is not usually recommended, but if a banner is applied to the shield[Java Edition], this may be worth considering.

Carrot on a Stick

  • Unbreaking III
  • Mending

The tool is one of the least frequently used in the game, so acquiring it or enchanting it is not recommended.

Warped Fungus on a Stick

  • Unbreaking III
  • Mending

Due to similar reasons to the Carrot on a Stick, this tool is not recommended to be enchanted. Furthermore, even if these are depleted, they will simply become fishing rods, so the player can simply craft a new fishing rod by using another warped fungus from their inventory.

Elytra

  • Unbreaking III
  • Mending

The fact that Elytra are so useful in late-game almost mandates that their enchantments be applied. In a nutshell, mending is the most effective way to repair damaged elytra, since phantom membranes and other Elytras cannot be repaired except in an anvil, and the cost will continue to increase over time.
