Woman to Looters: 'Oscar Grant Wouldn't Do This'

By Jack Duane on July 8, 2010 - 10:54 p.m. PDT

As people were looting Foot Locker on Broadway and 14th Streets in downtown Oakland, Alicia English stood outside the store urging people to stop. Their actions, she said, were detracting from the message and playing into negative stereotypes about blacks.

“Oscar Grant wouldn’t do this,” she shouted. “The reason why things don't change is because y'all are to busy thinking about this” English said pointing the the Foot Locker.

One man disagreed, “I would understand what you're saying if this was a Mom & Pop store. But this is Foot Locker. They don’t do shit for the community.”
