An SF Rap to Discount Store Ross Dress for Less
The SF-based collective Abraham Linkin wrote this rap homage to "Ross Dress For Less." Personally, I've always been a Loehmann's girl but that's not a ding on this video.
Abe Linkin doesn't have a website yet but Daniel Jarvis, who shot the video, emailed to say they're "a collective and not just one or two guys, or a rap group. It's a movement that is gathering creatives of different backgrounds and letting each person add their own piece to the puzzle that is Abe Linkin."
So why the homage to Ross Dress for Less?
"Yeah, we look good but you think we're about to spend our whole check? Please!" Jarvis says. "Abraham Linkin is anti-bling and anti-gangsta. Not hard and thug, just dudes like you or me. It's art for and from real people."
When we played the video in the office, Bay Citizen photographer Adithya Sambamurthy jumped out of his seat. "I saw these guys in Dolores Park!" he said. They were rapping along with an old school boom box.
"Abe Linkin is really big on street performances and do indeed hit Dolores regularly," Jarvis said.
In that spirit, the video was shot all over the city.
"It's a style of capturing life. We really wanted to show the people of San Francisco and the city's vibe. We stopped by the Panhandle, Haight Street, the 16th and Mission BART and other corners in the Mission. We went on the 14 bus, the J train and finally stopping off at the Brainwash open mic comedy night where Abe Linkin KILLED it with a live show."
