Mavericks Surf Contest founder Jeff Clark describes the dramatic rescue of famed surfer Jacob Trette, 30, who was surfing on Jan. 22 near Pillar Point in Half Moon Bay when a massive wave wiped out scores of surfers.

Trette was found unconscious, floating, by Australian surf photographer Russell Ord who used a Jet Ski that he had borrowed earlier in the day to pull the injured man to shore.

Clark says that the use of the Jet Ski probably saved Trette's life but they're outlawed on the waters, which are part of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
