What Sounds like Dessert? Local Chefs and Musicians Recommend Pairings
Michael Mina, Anthony Myint, Thee Oh Sees and others mix and match songs with culinary fare
Much effort is expended on pairing food and wine —and increasingly, beer — but as described in detail in The Bay Citizen's story, coupling food and music is growing more common.
But how to choose which tune goes with what plate? According to Chad Robertson, everything from Mingus to the Butthole Surfers gets played in the Tartine bakery kitchen (so think of that when you're dipping into the sublime bread pudding.) To assist in planning a playlist for your next dinner party, we asked a bunch of Bay Area chefs and musicians to pair their own creations, either sonic or epicurean, with the corresponding form. The pairings are anything but predictable. Who knew that Chinese food would go so well with old-school hip hop? Or that Michael Mina is a Rihanna fan?
Feel free to comment and add your own mixes! We'll be tweeting out our favorites throughout the day.
