Fedoras and Nightmare Prophesies at Noir City

A noir double feature with Angie Dickinson attracted the trenchcoat crowd

By Jason Novak on January 24, 2012 - 6:00 a.m. PST

This year marks the tenth anniversary of Noir City, San Francisco's film festival dedicated to the moody film genre with deep roots in our foggy city. Jason Novak headed out during a stormy weekend to mingle with gumshoes, punks, and actress Angie Dickinson at a double feature at the Castro Theatre.

Fantastic story! The alliterative eighth century Anglo Saxon epics sound worth looking for, but I doubt they'll beat the spare staccato language of this report, nor the evocative drawings.

Jason:

I loved your review...and the sketches were amazing. I am one of the festival volunteers...you probably saw me..I was the woman running around on Angie night making sure we had enough booze to serve.

Thanks,

Jewli Judd

Cool format! Props to the Bay Citizen for shaking up the way we tell stories!

Nice article, and great sketches. Point of interest - Eddie Muller does NOT maintain Hammett's (and Spade's) apartment. I lived there from 1993 to 2009. Eddie found me a great guy to take over the place, Robert Mailer Anderson, who had the place professionally restored. Robert is swell, and let's me stay there during the annual festivals, for which I proudly serve as announcer.
