David Downs, the assiduous chronicler of cannabis culture at the East Bay Express, has put together a nice marijuana year-in-review. In it, he notes the rise and fall of Prop 19, which would have legalized pot in California and some very interesting stories from outside the marijuana epicenter:

"MayTwo firebombings of medical marijuana dispensaries in Montana signal unease over the issue in the red state.

Oaksterdam unionizes, part of a wave of unionization in the California industry.

The California Board of Equalization discloses dispensaries contribute $100 million in sales taxes each year.

Riding the casual gaming wave, Facebook game Pot Farm approaches 500,000 growers on its way to almost 1.5 million by year's end."

The SF Weekly also has an end of the year roundup of medical pot news from reporter Chris Roberts. It notes that new regulations on pot brownies went into effect this year:

"The city passed strict rules regarding dispensaries manufacturing and selling of medical cannabis edibles -- requiring food-handling courses and kitchen inspections for the folks cooking butter and baking brownies. New rules on labels were also passed: All edibles now come with a "made-on date" stamped on their wrappers -- which are now required to be opaque (as in not see-through), as to not attract children. Is your brownie rotten? Only one way to find out -- open it up and take a sniff. But that's what kids are for, right?"

Finally, we have the top ten stories of 2010 from the web site Celeb Stoner. The number one story was Prop 19, followed by Willie Nelson getting busted for weed again, and number seven was a tribute to our own pot-smoking San Francisco Giants:

"7. Giants Win the World Series

America's stoner team shocked the baseball world with their improbable post-season run. In the World Series, San Francisco defeated Texas in five games behind ace Tim Lincecum, who was arrested for marijuana possession in 2009. When he slumped over the summer, fans began chanting "Let Timmy Smoke," sparking several cool t-shirts designs."
