Whitney Houston, the pop diva who began her career singing in church and later struggled with the demons of addiction, died Saturday at the age of 48.
Houston was found dead in her Beverly Hills Hotel room Saturday afternoon. According to the Associated Press, the cause of death is under investigation.
She died the day before the Grammy Awards, the music industry's annual celebration of the best in song.
Houston was not just a pop star; she was also a movie star, and, at times, a drug addict.
Houston was married to soul singer Bobby Brown from 1992-2007. They had one daughter together, Bobbi Kristina, who was born in 1993.
