San Francisco District Attorney Kamala D. Harris will declare victory in her race for attorney general today, after four weeks of nail-biting vote counts.
Her opponent, Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley, threw in the towel last week, but Harris had declined to declare victory in what has been--from both sides--a very gracious conclusion to a heated race.
The Harris camp announced her schedule for Tuesday, which starts at 10:30 in the morning at the Millenium Biltmore in downtown L.A., before sweeping back into San Francisco for a 4:30 appearance at the Delancey Street Foundation on the Embarcadero. A victory party will follow.
Now comes the speculation over whether Harris would leave office early to give Mayor Gavin Newsom a chance to appoint her replacement as district attorney.
