SF Tax Man Phil Ting Takes Aim at Prop. 13

San Francisco Assessor-Recorder Phil Ting is hosting a town hall in Oakland tonight from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to discuss possible repeal of Prop. 13 as it applies to commercial property. Anti-Prop. 13 forces have argued in the past that commerical properties pay a significantly smaller percentage of the total property-tax revenues in the state than residential property-owners.

The town hall, at the Laney College Student Center, is billed as a strategy session to "reform Prop. 13 and restore funding to public education and services." The Cal Berkeley Democrats and other Democrat organizations are listed as co-sponsors.

More details about the event and the organization taking aim at Prop. 13's protections for commercial properties can be found at www.closetheloophole.com.
