The chances of the current San Francisco Board of Supervisors selecting an interim mayor appear to be waning with the board opting yet again on Tuesday to delay taking nominations. The board has been unwilling to move forward publicly since a consensus has not yet been reached behind the scenes, insiders say.
As soon as the public period ended on Tuesday, Supervisor Sophie Maxwell moved to continue the discussion at the next meeting to allow for more time to discuss the issue. Supervisor Chris Daly objected and pointedly criticized the board for shirking its responsibilities. He was overruled 8-3, with Supervisors David Campos and Ross Mirkarimi joining him.
The board's move on Tuesday leaves just one final opportunity -- when the board convenes for a final time on Jan. 4 -- for the current supervisors to make an appointment. The board leaves for a two-week recess this week.
Correction: A previous version of this post incorrectly identified Supervisor John Avalos as voting against a motion to continue the interim mayor appointment process. It was Supervisor David Campos, not Avalos, who voted with Daly and Mirkarimi against the motion.

Interesting,
Around 20 people spoke at Public Comment on the matter and the only potential candidate with any significant mention was David Campos. One guy pushed Maxwell for the job, another offered to take it himself and around a half dozen pushed the D-9 rookie supe.
Could be they're waiting to see if Newsom takes the oath of Lt. Governor on the 3rd and resigns. SF law says that an official cannot hold two offices simultaneously but it also says the position must be vacant before an Interim Mayor is installed. Either way I'd guess this sitting Board will come up with a pick on January 4th. Then, the new Board can make a pick on January 8th and we'll have 2 mayors. Hey, weren't there once a couple of popes at the same time? Once again SF will flout the laws of physics.
parallel universe indeed,
