Oakland City Attorney John Russo confirmed to the East Bay Express Wednesday that he may not finish his term, a day after The Bay Citizen reported that he is considering resigning, possibly as early as April.

"I've been thinking that this may not be a good fit," Russo told the Express. "There's no question that I've been giving a lot of thought to my future."

But what that future will be remains unclear.

Russo, who declined The Bay Citizen's interview requests this week, vehemently denied to the Express that he is harboring plans to run for Sandré Swanson's state Assembly seat.

The city attorney also issued a tweet this morning, saying: "To be clear: I am NOT running for Assembly in 2012. I will NEVER run for Assembly again. If I'm on 2012 ballot, it will b for City Attorney."
