Update: The court has confirmed the ruling will be issued between 1 and 3 p.m. Wednesday.
A decision in the federal challenge to the state’s same-sex marriage ban will be issued Wednesday, according to an announcement from the court. U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker did not disclose what time he will issue the ruling in the closely watched Proposition 8 trial, which began in January and wrapped up with closing arguments in June.
The ruling will be released through the court’s electronic filing system; the judge won't make an announcement in person. Hard copies of the decision will also be available at several Bay Area courthouses.
The plaintiffs in the case, who are opposed to Prop. 8, are planning a rally in response to the ruling.
The defendants, who support the state ban on same-sex marriage, will issue a statement on their website.
