Restaurant Employee Shot in the Neck

Oakland Police Department

A man employed at Otaez Mexican restaurant, whose owner was killed in an unsolved robbery earlier this year, was shot in the neck Monday night.

According to Oakland police, the man was in his car about 10:23 p.m. when a single gunshot struck him in the neck. Officer Johnna Watson said the man was in stable condition at the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

The department has not identified suspects or made any arrests.

"It's a pretty skinny case. We need information for investigators," Watson said.

According to ABC7 News, the man was on his way to a work party when the shooting occurred. Police pulled him over and discovered he needed medical aid when his driving became erratic.

The shooting occurred right near the Fruitvale restaurant, at 3872 International Boulevard, where beloved owner Jesus "Chuy" Campos was killed in an armed robbery attempt in April. The case remains unsolved.
