Oakley Power Plant Approved

PG&E received approval to build a $1.1 billion power plant in Oakley in the East Bay.

The California Public Utilities Commission voted 4-1 to approve the project. It was supported by local government officials who touted its job-creation potential but opposed by environmentalists and utility reform advocates who argued it is unnecessary.

The 586-megawatt natural gas fueled power plant is expected to be constructed and operational by mid-2016.
