Oakland police captain Ed Tracey said Wednesday police are looking for a man they say is responsible for a series of sexual assaults around Lake Merritt, including a fifth attack on Tuesday.

The suspect followed a woman into her home on the 1400 block of 3rd Avenue Tuesday evening as she was returning from a store. The man, described as black and about six feet tall, ordered her to remove her clothes, then fled.

Police have reported four other attacks in the neighborhood around the lake in the past seven months, including in January 2011, February 7 and September 2010, when two women were robbed and sexually assaulted while on their way home. Police released a sketch after the earlier assaults.

Tracey described the suspect as "patient," and said police believe he watches and waits for opportunities to attack.
