This morning, The New York Times reported that four of its correspondents in Libya — Beirut bureau chief Anthony Shadid, reporter Stephen Farrell and photographers Tyler Hicks and Lynsey Addario — have gone missing. They were last seen on Tuesday.
One of those journalists might be familiar to Bay Area audiences. In addition to her extensive photojournalism from the Middle East and Africa for The New York Times and other publications, Addario's work is currently at San Francisco City Hall.
She's part of a four-person photo show, designed to showcase different views from combat photographers in Afghanistan. Titled "Afghanistan in 4 Frames: 4 Embedded Photographers Take Aim at War," Addario's contribution was a series called "Women at War," showing female soldiers working in Afghanistan. (The Bay Citizen wrote about the show in January.)
Here are some of her photos from the series:
Go to City Hall to see more of her work. Addario is an extremely experienced war photographer, but on Twitter, CNN producer Ivan Watson noted that in a recent e-mail, she had said her current work in Libya "has been one of the most dangerous i've (sic) ever covered." It goes without saying that we all are hoping for the journalists to surface soon.
