Little progress was made Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors in its efforts to appoint an interim mayor to succeed Gavin Newsom.
Supervisors voted 9-2 to delay by one week a plan to nominate candidates and appoint one of them to lead the city after Newsom leaves office until an election is held. Newsom is scheduled to depart next month for a new role as California's lieutenant governor.
Supervisor Eric Mar said the one-week delay will allow lawmakers to continue conversations about the decision with constituents and stakeholders.
Supervisors Chris Daly and John Avalos cast the dissenting votes.
