In what has been a rollercoaster day of legal proceedings that are bound to have foodie fans’ stomachs in knots, the eviction of popular San Francisco sandwich shop Ike’s Place was suddenly called off this afternoon.
This morning, Superior Court Judge Peter J. Busch ruled against Ike’s on a motion based on a technicality, which allowed the eviction to proceed.
But this afternoon the lawyer representing the restaurant found an error in the court papers, according to shop owner Ike Shehadeh. Instead of evicting the sandwich business, the filing named Shehadeh and his mother.
That’s not the same thing. So when the sheriff’s office was informed, the eviction was canceled. Shehadeh said now the entire eviction case must start from scratch, and he promised to do a better job defending the restaurant in court.
So the sandwiches are still selling on 16th – a large crowd was lined up this afternoon in the direct sun, hoping for one last bite. But now the saga continues….
