An eyewitness to a fatal Caltrain accident last month is providing new information about what happened in the seconds before Judith Goldblatt, 65, was killed. Goldblatt was behind the wheel of a car that inexplicably stalled on the tracks in front on an oncoming train. Her husband escaped seconds before the car was crushed.
Mercury News columnist Scott Herhold spoke with Robert Monroe who was sitting in his car behind the Goldblatt's Nissan. "I guess I'm a little ticked off at myself," Monroe told Herhold. "Why wasn't I on the horn honking at her? Why wasn't I outside, yelling at her? It was like it was in slow motion."
Caltrain is still investigating the accident, but Monroe said the Goldblatts had a green light and the car in front of the couple had cleared out of the way. The Goldblatts were visiting from Indianapolis. They had come to see Judith's sister.
