U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina celebrates her primary win on June 8, 2010
Days after she was barracked by questions from reporters about her vague position on Proposition 23 during a debate against Sen. Barbara Boxer, Republican Senate nominee Carly Fiorina said Friday that she indeed supports the proposition.

The November ballot measure would suspend AB 32, the California law that curbs greenhouse gas emissions, until unemployment in the state drops to 5.5 percent or below for a year. The initiative has largely been funded by out-of-state oil companies.

"AB 32 is undoubtedly a job killer, and it should be suspended," Fiorina said in statement that outlined her positions on every proposition on the state ballot.

She opposes Prop. 19, which would legalize marijuana. She also opposes Prop. 27 — the initiative, heavily backed by incumbent politicians, to eliminate a citizens' commission that conducts redistricting — saying that "Washington insiders like Barbara Boxer will do whatever it takes to ensure their own re-election."

The statement on her positions came after an awkward moment during the mid-week debate when Fiorina repeatedly declined to answer questions about her position on Prop. 23. When pressed by reporters after the debate, Fiorina said that she wasn't "trying to be evasive" and was genuinely undecided.

In an e-mail, Rose Kapolcynzski, Boxer's campaign manager, said that "Fiorina has demonstrated once again how out of touch she is with most Californians, by siding with oil companies who are trying to repeal our landmark clean energy law."

Here is Fiorina's full statement on her support for Prop. 23:

Proposition 23 is a Band-Aid fix and an imperfect solution to addressing our nation’s climate and energy challenges. The real solution to these challenges lies not with a single state taking action on its own, but rather with global action. That’s why we need a comprehensive, national energy solution that funds energy R&D and takes advantage of every source of domestic energy we have – including nuclear, wind and solar – in an environmentally responsible way. That said, AB 32 is undoubtedly a job killer, and it should be suspended.
