Nearly seven months later, the attorney general's investigation into former San Francisco crime lab technician Debbie Madden remains open. And until it's closed, Madden is likely to not face the other charges against her.
Those include charges in San Mateo County of cocaine and illegal firearm possession which were brought after authorities searched her home there in March. Madden's arraignment began at 9 a.m. this morning, but San Mateo County chief assistant district attorney Steve Wagstaffe said an arraignment probably won’t happen.
“It’s going to get continued,” he said. “The defense attorney is waiting on the AG to make a decision on whether to prosecute her for the SF items.”
The AG's office opened an investigation after authorities learned Madden had been skimming cocaine samples from evidence at the crime lab. The drug analysis section of the lab has since been closed, prompting police to begin conducting their own presumptive drug tests.
