East Palo Alto has the smallest percentage of whites of any town in the Bay Area -- just over six percent.
The impoverished San Mateo County community, which is just a stone's throw from the august halls of Stanford University and the city of Palo Alto.
For its part, Palo Alto is a lot more diverse than it used to be.
Ten years ago, the city was 75 percent white. In the most recent census, the percentage of whites in Palo Alto fell to just over 60 percent.
Other Bay Area cities with small percentages of whites include San Pablo (10 percent) and Daly City (13 percent).
In Milpitis and Union City, 14 percent of residents were white.
