BART Pays $1.3 Million to Oscar Grant's Mother

BART has agreed to pay $1.3 million to the mother of Oscar Grant, an unarmed black man who was shot and killed while lying face down by a BART police officer in 2009.

KTVU reports that BART officials agreed to pay Wanda Johnson $1.3 million to settle a wrongful death lawsuit. Last year, BART paid $1.5 million settlement Grant's young daughter, Tatiana Grant.

Grant was 22 when he was killed by Johannes Mehserle, a former BART officer who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the case. Mehserle released from custody earlier this month after serving 11 months in custody.
