Hundreds of AC Transit bus drivers called in sick for the second day in a row, the Chronicle reports. They're upset because the district imposed an old labor contract on the drivers after negotiations for a new contract broke down.
The district wanted to the bus drivers' union to cough up $15 million in givebacks, as The Bay Citizen first reported, to close a $56 million budget shortfall.
The bus drivers challenged the district and won the right to go before an arbitrator, but they won't be getting a ruling on an injunction they sought against the district until July 30.
Riders were left meanwhile to wait even longer for their buses. Reported one rider on Twitter: "Stuck at a bus stop for 30 minutes because of the AC Transit driver strike, not happy."
