Protests in Oakland on the Eve of Mehserle's Release

The day before former BART police Officer Johannes Mehserle was to be released from Los Angeles County Jail, about 200 people marched to 14th and Broadway in downtown Oakland in protest. Mehserle was released shortly after midnight Monday after serving 11 months of a two-year sentence. He was convicted in July of involuntary manslaughter in the 2009 shooting of Oscar Grant III.
