When one of the editors here at The Citizen suggested that I blog about New Taste Marketplace at St. Gregory’s church last Saturday, I was hesitant. I am not a foodie. My culinary skills are still limited to stir fries and the occasional omelet.
Then I saw the menu and got excited. Surely even the most unrefined palate could learn to appreciate a grilled cheese with garlic chutney.
I called up two friends, one vegetarian and the other omnivorous, and the three of us ate our way through $20 in about an hour. Not bad for a small lunch.
The fun of this market is chatting with the vendors, who are more than happy to explain the intricacies of their dish over a free sample.
I also appreciated how the event was also a fundraiser for St. Gregory’s food pantry. The organizers want to connect the gourmet crowd with larger food justice issues in the city.
Check out the slideshow of the food we ate and how we rated it.

It feels really good to belong to a church community that "walks the talk" with this and many other efforts to feed the hungry, help the homeless, work with AIDS patients in Malawi, and more....Sunday services are at 8:30 and 10:45 AM if you'd like to see how we dance and sing together (a cappella) every week.
