It's Tuesday, which means it's time for a Short Break! Check back every week for another awesome short film.
After this weekend's Oscarcade of stars, swears, and mediocre ratings, I found myself thinking about my favorite Academy Award-nonimated shorts. There's a lot of great ones - about which, stay tuned, etc. - but if you've never seen 'Rejected' by Don Hertzfeldt then I am about to make your day, or possibly week. By 2000, Fremont-born Hertzfeldt had impressed all with his anarchic students films like "'Billy's Balloon." "Rejected" expands upon the humor and energy of thees earlier films while incorporating some truly groundbreaking techniques and ideas. Plus, how many other Academy Award-nominated films feature a character repeatedly screaming 'My anus is bleeding!'? (Other than 'Citizen Kane'.) In 2010, the San Francisco International Film Festival gave Hertzfeldt a Lifetime Achievement Award
Enjoy the film and make sure to check out some special 'bonus materials' below.
Right?!? So while I don't have a personal Q & A with the director, I did find great one with friend o' the blog Mike Plante from the LA stop of the "An Evening With Don Hertzfeldt" Tour. Here is part 1:
and Part 2:
Additionally, check out Herztfeldt's extensive notes on the film from his own website.
And while you're there, make sure to check out the store, where Don's complete body of work is available to own!
