As a dairy and meat alternative, goats are a hot ticket right now. You may have heard about the goat festival coming to San Francisco’s Ferry Plaza Farmers Market April 16, which will feature cooking demos, goat cheese tastings and appearances from adorable baby goats. What’s not as well known is that the same kids visiting the city from Redwood Hill Farm will be holding court this weekend at their home in Sonoma County, outside of Sebastopol.
Laiko Bahrs of Epicuring told me about Redwood Hill’s farm days, which are happening April 9 and 10 again on May 7 and 8. The goat farm and dairy, which is normally closed to the public, will offer tastings of its goat cheeses and yogurts, kids activities and live music, and you can wander around the orchards, learn about cheesemaking and see the animals up close.
Redwood Hill has good credentials; is certified humane, and claims to be the first goat dairy in the United States with this certification. The farm says that the goats are free range, hormone free and fed on organic feed, when possible, and the farm itself is organic and solar-powered.
The farm days will happen from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the farm, 5480 Thomas Road, Sebastopol; there is no entry fee. The farm asks that people carpool because of limited parking, and to visit its Facebook page in case ofweather-related cancellations.

I think everyone in the TBC newsroom knows where I'll be this weekend...
