What will no doubt be the next great Bay Area dance anthem has arrived — on public transportation. The official video for “BART Train” by East Bay duo Malki Means King and Juey Starberry dropped on YouTube last week.
The song features catchy lyrics like "We on the BART train/Shake that ass girl/[indecipherable] cookies", auto-tune, a pounding beat – and actually casts BART in a favorable light.
Sitting in BART seat, Malki opens up about what he considers the excellent on-time performance of BART. "You ain’t gotta drive/You just gotta ride/I’m on the Richmond train/Gonna do it live/Hittin’ Frisco/Never been slow/I’m there ten minutes/I’m on BART Train," he raps.
Let’s overlook the unforgivable faux pas of calling it “Frisco” and ask the big question: Has the love affair between musicians and their cars ended? Will we see a future of songs praising public transportation instead of their tricked-out automobiles? Judging from new video from the SF-based Girls' for their single, "Vomit," released today, not quite yet.
