Bring the "K"ommunity Back to USF

I was there last night at the meetint with the president of USF. It was clear from the beginning, that this is going nowhere. He made up his mind and he had no intention to apologize or change his decision.

The sad thing is, I don't think he ever listened to KUSF. If he had he would have known that KUSF is a jewel on the FM dial. This is a place where the university and the Jesuits gave different communities the chance to voice their opinions, to present music, art, artists and much, much more to an interested audience in and around San Francisco.

KUSF was always open for students, even I had students from USF and from Germany coming to and on my show. I remember even contacting the university some years ago about the idea of a news magazine program with the students. I never got a response....

As for the idea of Rev. Stephen A. Privett to focus in the future more on the students and their education with KUSF, I have to say, that Mr. Privett and the university never tried to change the rules and regulations for KUSF. If they would have said - loud and clearly - the students and the media department need five hours a day during daytime to produce news, reports, features, radioplays, programming, it would have been the right move. And I'm sure the volunteers at KUSF would have supported it.

Yes, KUSF was and is a College station, but it has become over the last 34 years a Community station as well. And it seems the Jesuit leadership of the university doesn't see development and change as a good thing. They don't see the good that came out this multicultural oasis on the dial. They don't even have the guts to apologize not just to the volunteers they kicked out, but also to the underwriters and supporters which stood by the station over all these years.

It's a shame, that change was not made in an acceptable and doable way. I hope Rev. Privett will at one point realize, what he has done to everyone involved at KUSF.
