Continuing Warren Hellman’s vision for The Bay Citizen

While we mourn the loss of Warren Hellman, we also take great joy in celebrating his life. Warren was a visionary and leader who deeply loved San Francisco and the Bay Area. We are fortunate to have known and worked with him so closely over the last three years.

His concern over the alarming decline in local news reporting, arts and culture coverage and discourse in 2009 led to the founding of The Bay Citizen. He brought together a dedicated group to form the organization and served as Chairman of the Board.

Warren believed deeply in the Bay Area’s energy, spirit and innovation and knew we could create an organization that could revitalize local news in our community. He never faltered in that belief. It’s not an exaggeration to say that he swept me off my feet with his vision of what was possible. I am honored and blessed to have founded The Bay Citizen with him.

Warren’s spirit will live on at The Bay Citizen, as it will through his other many community endeavors. We are grateful he was able to be part of the birth of the organization and see it grow. We know Warren was proud of what we've accomplished. But in fact, it is we who are honored and proud to be part of his legacy to the Bay Area.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hellman family.

We invite those of you with memories and thoughts to share them on our site at www.baycitizen.org.
