KGO NEWSTALK 810 AND THE BAY CITIZEN ENHANCE BAY AREA NEWS COVERAGE THROUGH NEW COLLABORATION
Tuesday, January 8, 2011
For immediate release
KGO Newstalk 810 and The Bay Citizen today announced a collaboration that will greatly enhance news reporting about the Bay Area. Both newsrooms boast award-winning journalists who will work together to expand coverage of civic and community news on the radio, in print and online.
Under this agreement KGO Radio and The Bay Citizen news desks will jointly develop story ideas and regularly share content, including live and breaking news and community journalism. The newsrooms will also co-develop investigative and enterprise reports on issues critical to the Bay Area community. News stories will appear as radio broadcasts on KGO radio (AM 810), on baycitizen.org, and on kgoradio.com.
In addition to baycitizen.org, The Bay Citizen also produces The New York Times’s regional Bay Area report, which appears in print on Fridays and Sundays as well as on NYTimes.com.
KGO’s General Manager, Deidra Lieberman says, “KGO and The Bay Citizen have a unique opportunity to enhance the quality of local news by reporting vital news stories and features paramount to our community. We are excited that Bay Area residents will benefit from the increased local news coverage resulting from this collaboration.”
“The Bay Citizen has put together a talented staff that’s already breaking important news stories,” said Paul Hosley, KGO News Director. “This collaboration will help give their stories a bigger voice and will help KGO supply our listeners with the very best local radio news coverage.”
”Working with KGO adds a new dimension to our Bay Area coverage and expands our reach to KGO Radio’s 750,000 listeners,” says The Bay Citizen’s CEO Lisa Frazier. “This collaboration is the next step in our plan to become a multi-channel news provider by partnering with leading media organizations, and is also a key step in The Bay Citizen’s plan to achieve sustainability.”
Steve Fainaru, The Bay Citizen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Managing Editor for News adds, “For years KGO has played a leading role in news gathering in the Bay Area, from up-to-the-minute traffic updates to investigative reporting, and has been a pioneer in giving voice to countless people in the region through its provocative newstalk programs. We are thrilled to develop new and innovative ways of gathering and distributing information to better serve the Bay Area.”
