Web Producer / Front-End Web Developer
Reports To: Chief Technology Officer
SUMMARY

The Bay Citizen is redefining the model for journalism and is made up of a talented team of journalists and technologists.
We are looking for a Web Producer / Front-end Web Developer who will play a critical role in our News Applications Team. The Web Producer is responsible for a wide range of duties that fall at the intersection of editorial and technology – from working with reporters and editors to enhance our daily interactive content for stories, to long-term data applications.
Responsibilities:
- Take a leading role in the News Applications Team to develop innovative data and news applications
- Develop and prepare multimedia stories for publication, including editing of video, creation of infographics, and other interactive content
- Discover and develop interactive content to contribute to overall site interaction
- Working very closely with the Editorial Team to determine appropriate content for stories, then gather, prepare and publish content.
- Design and layout of complex content packages
- Work with the Technology Team on advanced toolsets for reporters, editors, videographers, and others
Requirements:
- You’re a hacker that gets thing done
- Strong working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- You’re friendly and like talking to super smart non-techie types (reporters and editors)
- You’re curious about news, your community, and how things work
- Completely fluent in Photoshop with design experience
- Demonstrated ability to build impressive online interactive content
Bonus points for:
- Solid HTML/CSS and experience with jQuery or another Javascript library
- Interactive data visualization (e.g. Protovis, Flare) and a love of beautiful, meaningful charts
- Django/Python
Also, if you’ve built anything interesting outside of work/school, we want to see it. Links to web apps, repos, portfolios, etc are greatly appreciated.
